Good Health, Good Ballet Hair and Good Golly look at Rudolph!

As I suspected - we were all struck down with a horrid flu - poor Loughie was hit the hardest but we are all on the mend now. And now that I feel a modicum of energy flowing back through my body I hope you are all ready for a big week ahead! First up expect big things with pigtails - I have set myself a little pigtail challenge. Also hopefully time for some new bows - time for a bit of a Bowznstuff Buzz I think and lots of sewing going on too so might have a thing or two to show there!
But that's all in the coming week, what about today I hear you ask impatiently. Well today I have some ballet hair to show off AND a rockin' Rudolph set to share.
Plus plus plus a FABULOUS giveaway at Girly dos - absolute must enter with THREE prizes to win! Do NOT forget to tell her I sent you :)
So first up ballet hair.
Start with a narrow T-part -so that the two ponies at the front are only small.

Then criss cross these over and add them into two piggies. Simple but adds some interest.

Then time for two Princess Lea Buns. I wanted mine nice and big so I didn't twist the hair much before winding them round and kep them nice and fluffy. If you poked them you would feel that though they are big they aren't very solid. Usual drill, wind them round and secure with one pin. Angle the pin in so that in makes a V with the head and then pull in back so that it is parralell to the head as you slide in through. Pop the bun net over and then secure with pins, using the same V-parallel action.

Looks good huh?And with some bows and marabou...

Also today, one of the most popular Christmas sets from last year - Rockin' Rudie. You can see more here.

Diesmal wieder was für Ballet.

Braided Climber challenge

Right tee ho - I am back from the land of the long white cloud aka New Zealand and have drunk enough coffee and talked at my dear friend to last me for a few months at least - tee hee. So now I am home with a mountain of sewing but before I get started on that I wanted to post the results of Jenn's challenge - to find something to do with the rest of the hair after a headband with climbers hair do at the front. The fundamental problem for me was having enough energy to do anything at all with the back of the hair after completing the braided climbers at the front but I took it in stages and we got there in the end! So I started off with a varation on the climbers making them tiara style rather than fully woven. So I did one pony (red elastic) in the centre of the head then divinded it in half and braided it into two ponies either side. (green elastics) Then I braided these and brought them together in a small pony at the centre back of the head (orange elastic) . Then I did some messy criss cross ponies up the back of the head - when I say messy I mean I pulled the shorter bits of hair out of the ponies for a softer effect. So at this stage I had two piggies and one small orange pony in the middle of them. So I divided my orange pony and added half the hair into each of the piggies. And THEN I flipped each piggie under and through but only pulled it half way through rather than going for the full flip.

You can see where the little orange pony is divided and fed into each of the piggies making a diamond shape at the top of the head.

You can see the half flip in one of the piggies here.

Hair styles, Hair fun, being little girls

Okay so I am a liiiitle bit obsessed! However, there is simply nothing to be done about it, just better to go with it. I looked after Hettie's little friend on Friday and we rounded off the day with a totally girlie session -puffy braids AND criss cross piggies - looks pretty cool hey! Hettie meanwhile sported puffy zig zag part braids. And today I thought I'd try out a braided crown that I saw here but ended up going a bit mad and rather liked the crazy result! I started off by parting at the centre and then stood behind Hettie and started braiding on the right hand side across the back of the head. Once I got round near the left ear I began just plaiting without the full french braid and then resumed the french braid once I had plaited enough to go over the head and then braided right down the side and across the back - kinda Heidi gets funky!
This is what it looks like from the front and then from the back.

Hair styles, Ebay and School Holidays

This week as always there is lots and lots going on. The kids are on school holidays and we are trying to do something exciting/interesting each day. This week Hettie is doing a swim class each day so that gets us out and about and next week it is Loughie's turn with dancing. It was Pete's birthday today as well so that gave us plenty to do - buying presents, making cards etc etc. And as always I've been a busy little sewing bee - you can see my auctions here. Oh and I've also been having lots of hair fun this week too. My dear Glamsquad buddies pointed out this , rather fine blog (and this one and this one too) to me which has fed merciously into my hair obesession. When Loughie was little he had exactly the same hair as Hettie and it was almost too much to take not to style it. But my restraint was rewarded when Hettie arrived and after months of baldness sprouted exactly the same hair. I cannot tell you the joy I get from doing her hair! And well to show a hair junkie a blog full of funky styles - what is a girl to do but experiment!!!!! Henrietta's ballet teacher was VERY impressed when she turned up with her criss cross piggies, paired with crossed twists and little buns tee hee!

Off with their heads!!!!! Bowznstuff Magical Kingdom Wear - Queen of Hearts

Ahh Friday. Friday, Friday, Friday! How I love Fridays. And not just because it is the end of the week. For near on 20 years I loved Friday nights because Saturday meant ballet - yaayyyy. and these days I can once again find joy in looking forward to Saturday ballet, not for me but for Loughie and Henrietta - and whilst they dance I can soak in the atmosphere and gabble away to the other ballet mums - ahhhhhhh does life get any better LOL! Plus plus plus just two days until the plaster cast comes off - yippppeeeeeee. But on the downside only one week until dum dum dah daaaaahhhhh - school holidays - I always find it the height of ridiculousness to have THREE weeks of school holidays in the middle of WINTER - and this year obviously just because it peeves me so much the school has decided to make it 3 weeks and TWO days which as another mother said to me with a pained expression on her face - is getting on for 4 weeks! Not that I do not LOVE school holidays - I LOVE us all not having to get rush around and I love to hang out with Loughie and Hettie and do things we wouldn't normally get to do together but really three weeks in the dank dim winter, or rather three weeks and two days - it just peeves me. Why not pop another week or two onto the summer hols or just random week somewhere in the middle of term time. Which just gets me started on why our seasons here in Australia are totally, completely silly. See you guys on the other side of the world, you have it made. In winter, which doesn't in itself have much to recommend itself you have all the excitement of the Christmas season and New Year and I have sampled the Christmas season all over the world and let me tell you Christmas in the middle of summer just doesn't cut it! Heck even your lead up to winter is great, Halloween, thanksgiving, its like a lovely little snowy path leading you through the winter season with lots of fun and distraction along the way. And then in Summer, which really needs no other excitement you have this big long break from school and acres of fun. Its just spaced out much better - all our fun is jam packed into a few months and then NOTHING. We have summer, our big long school break, Christmas, New Years all jammed into December/Jan, then hot on the tail of that Easter and then bleakness, nothing, no fun, no distraction until the next December - I am telling you badly organized - very badly organized!
But I digress - rather badly! What I really wanted to say was that I AM grateful today not just for the fact that it is Friday BUT also for the fact that I have this rather FAB set to show you.
Rock on Bloggers!
