Weaving Tiara's.

Now if you want to really learn how to weave or to really get inspired about weaving, this lady here is your girl. But I can sort of help you a bit :) Start by making three mini ponies across the very front of the head and then make two piggie tails on the crown. Now you take the three ponies from the right hand side and feed them all over at once to the piggie on the left hand side of the head. Then you can either take all the ponies on the left hand side of the head and weave them one at a time through the ponies from the right hand side OR you can sort of weave as you go. So when you grab the three ponies from the right hand side - hold them up and weave the left hand ponies under and over under and over - just loosely so that they are in place. Secure them to the piggie and then pull the ponies from left hand side, pull them tight, wiggle and jiggle a bit and then secure them to the opposite piggie. A bit fiddly but worth the effort I think and a fab way to keep the hair off the face whilst still looking stylish!

Weaving fairies

Some weaving and some costumes today! I had a bit of time (miraculously) up my sleeve this morning, so I set about doing some weaving. Hettie's hair was nice and curly so I wanted to do something to show it off. I started off with 4 mini ponies right at the front of the head. Then I divided these in half and made 4 new ponies behind them. The end ponies on the front row had one half of them flying free. I left the rest of the hair flowing free and popped 2 bows in the outside back ponies.

And in sewing news - a most requested Halloween costume from 2007 - and yes it is early for costumes but time goes quickly and by the time costumes are listed and then recreated time goes faster than you think! You can see more here.

Simple braided headand with ponies

So was schoenes!

Another new do from me today. This time something nice and simple but rather effective as a headband. You start with a small pony in the middle of the head braid it and then pop the braids into two more ponies on either side of the head. Simple but effective and practical. I am on a little mini vacation at the moment visiting friend in New Zealand. We have done pratically nothing else but drink coffee and talk at each other. Okay we have done a few touristry things but only when they can be combined with aforementioned coffee and chatting. Today Anita the poor girl has had to go into work, so I thoght I'd spend a bit of time catching up on my emails, blogging an then do a bit of shopping. Just fabulous.

Weaving twists and braids

Two play dates meant two style got an outing this week! The first was a simple variation on weaving..lets call it a half weave twist. So I started sectioning off the front of the hair in a T - with a part down the middle and a part right across the head about a third of the way back. Then I did two little ponies either side of the part. I divided these in half and popped half in another pony either side of the first two. Then I did a small pony behind the T at the base of the centre part. I took the two outer blue ponies and twisted them securing them with an additonal elastic to the little pony (the one where the barrette ist). The extra part of the divided original pony I let hang free. I've included some illustrated instructions below.

This is how it looks at the side/back.

Here are some instructions

And then today we had some more twisting fun. This one was a liiiittle bit trickier. But basically I started with a weave but only using the centre of the head. The first row of weaving is in green and the second is in organge. Once I'd gotten to the second row I picked up the divided part of the two greeen side ponies that was hanging free and the loose hair at the sides and twisted in up and used more elastics to secure the twists onto the centre back pony. The twists go in front of the orange row of ponies. The to finish off I picked up tow pieces from under the hair right down at the base of the neck and braided them, pulled them upwards and used elastics to secure them to the two outer orange ponies

Here are the side under-braids
Looks pretty cool from the back!
My final analysis - time consuming but looks more complicated than it is - very cute - onlookers extremely impressed and very durable - survived several hours of intensive play incuding trampline and lots of rolling around.

Hair styles, Hair fun, being little girls

Okay so I am a liiiitle bit obsessed! However, there is simply nothing to be done about it, just better to go with it. I looked after Hettie's little friend on Friday and we rounded off the day with a totally girlie session -puffy braids AND criss cross piggies - looks pretty cool hey! Hettie meanwhile sported puffy zig zag part braids. And today I thought I'd try out a braided crown that I saw here but ended up going a bit mad and rather liked the crazy result! I started off by parting at the centre and then stood behind Hettie and started braiding on the right hand side across the back of the head. Once I got round near the left ear I began just plaiting without the full french braid and then resumed the french braid once I had plaited enough to go over the head and then braided right down the side and across the back - kinda Heidi gets funky!
This is what it looks like from the front and then from the back.

Hair styles, Ebay and School Holidays

This week as always there is lots and lots going on. The kids are on school holidays and we are trying to do something exciting/interesting each day. This week Hettie is doing a swim class each day so that gets us out and about and next week it is Loughie's turn with dancing. It was Pete's birthday today as well so that gave us plenty to do - buying presents, making cards etc etc. And as always I've been a busy little sewing bee - you can see my auctions here. Oh and I've also been having lots of hair fun this week too. My dear Glamsquad buddies pointed out this , rather fine blog (and this one and this one too) to me which has fed merciously into my hair obesession. When Loughie was little he had exactly the same hair as Hettie and it was almost too much to take not to style it. But my restraint was rewarded when Hettie arrived and after months of baldness sprouted exactly the same hair. I cannot tell you the joy I get from doing her hair! And well to show a hair junkie a blog full of funky styles - what is a girl to do but experiment!!!!! Henrietta's ballet teacher was VERY impressed when she turned up with her criss cross piggies, paired with crossed twists and little buns tee hee!

Off with their heads!!!!! Bowznstuff Magical Kingdom Wear - Queen of Hearts

Ahh Friday. Friday, Friday, Friday! How I love Fridays. And not just because it is the end of the week. For near on 20 years I loved Friday nights because Saturday meant ballet - yaayyyy. and these days I can once again find joy in looking forward to Saturday ballet, not for me but for Loughie and Henrietta - and whilst they dance I can soak in the atmosphere and gabble away to the other ballet mums - ahhhhhhh does life get any better LOL! Plus plus plus just two days until the plaster cast comes off - yippppeeeeeee. But on the downside only one week until dum dum dah daaaaahhhhh - school holidays - I always find it the height of ridiculousness to have THREE weeks of school holidays in the middle of WINTER - and this year obviously just because it peeves me so much the school has decided to make it 3 weeks and TWO days which as another mother said to me with a pained expression on her face - is getting on for 4 weeks! Not that I do not LOVE school holidays - I LOVE us all not having to get rush around and I love to hang out with Loughie and Hettie and do things we wouldn't normally get to do together but really three weeks in the dank dim winter, or rather three weeks and two days - it just peeves me. Why not pop another week or two onto the summer hols or just random week somewhere in the middle of term time. Which just gets me started on why our seasons here in Australia are totally, completely silly. See you guys on the other side of the world, you have it made. In winter, which doesn't in itself have much to recommend itself you have all the excitement of the Christmas season and New Year and I have sampled the Christmas season all over the world and let me tell you Christmas in the middle of summer just doesn't cut it! Heck even your lead up to winter is great, Halloween, thanksgiving, its like a lovely little snowy path leading you through the winter season with lots of fun and distraction along the way. And then in Summer, which really needs no other excitement you have this big long break from school and acres of fun. Its just spaced out much better - all our fun is jam packed into a few months and then NOTHING. We have summer, our big long school break, Christmas, New Years all jammed into December/Jan, then hot on the tail of that Easter and then bleakness, nothing, no fun, no distraction until the next December - I am telling you badly organized - very badly organized!
But I digress - rather badly! What I really wanted to say was that I AM grateful today not just for the fact that it is Friday BUT also for the fact that I have this rather FAB set to show you.
Rock on Bloggers!
